Recorded on time lapse video, the life-like mural of Jackson has been built at the company's Ballarat plant using highly glazed bricks from both the Burlesque and Dynasty ranges. The video of the constructed wall can be viewed Here.
Brett Ward, Brickworks national marketing manager, says the mural is not only a special Brick ArtTM tribute to the King of Pop but also an excellent demonstration of the versatility and contemporary nature of what can be achieved with bricks.
"Michael Jackson was one of the world's greatest entertainers and we thought it fitting that he should be immortalised in brick. There are 1250 standard sized bricks used in the mural and the bricklayers were Lawler Bricklaying led by Craig Lawler," said Brett.
The Burlesque bricks used in the mural, which took two days to build, are available in bold colours not normally associated with bricks including green, yellow, white, red, blue and black. The Dynasty glazed bricks are also available in five dynamic colours.
"Burlesque bricks and Dynasty were chosen to enable the bricklayers to use the colours to form Michael Jackson's face and the background to the mural. We see the mural as a piece of art that will inspire architects and designers to create stylish, contemporary feature panels in buildings.
"Austral Bricks is excited about the opportunities that Brick ArtTM can play in the creation of unique and interesting feature murals for architects and designers" Brett Ward concluded.
